Statement from the Minister

The Federal Minister for Infrastructure, Transport, Regional Development and Local Government, the Hon Anthony Albanese, has announced changes to the Area Consultative Committee network across Australia.

In Federal Parliament on March 20, 2008, the Minister said that ACCs would provide the basis for the creation of Regional Development Australia.

Regional consultations for new Regional Development Australia

The Australian Government has announced that the National Network of 54 Area Consultative Committees – which cover all urban, regional, rural and remote areas of Australia – will form the basis for the establishment of Regional Development Australia.

Over the next few months, as part of the transition of ACCs to RDA committees, ACCs (including the South West ACC) will be consulting widely with regional communities about the establishment of Regional Development Australia and the implementation of a new regional funding program – the Regional and Local Community Infrastructure Program.

Staff changes

Former South West ACC Executive Officer Graham Hodgson has returned to the organisation after a break of nearly two years, taking over from Lisa Shreeve, who has resigned to take another career path.

Mr Hodgson will work until the end of 2008, assisting the ACC in the transition to Regional Development Australia. He can be reached on 9791-4552 or 0418 617 798.

Former Project Officer Jan Pedersen has also rejoined the South West ACC to assist in a series of regional consultations with local, State and federal governments, communities and businesses on the future of Regional Development Australia. She can be contacted on 9791-4552 or 0438 914 306.

Meanwhile, Project Officer Robyn Barrett and Small Business Field Officer Anita Ratcliffe have recently left the South West ACC for other career paths.
